exploring a new medium!

Hi friends, it’s been a while since I’ve written! I’ve been having a lot of fun exploring a new medium — drawing with Tombow markers. While most of my creative practice has been focused on painting, I’ve always loved to draw, too. But I haven’t really devoted much time to it since I first got back into art in 2018. See a couple photos below of drawings from that time!

I’ve wanted to get into sketch-booking recently, and drawing is cleaner and easier to set up than painting is. I love being able to create something during a short break from work. I discovered Tombow Dual Brush markers recently and have fallen in love! They have two different tips—one end of the pen is a brush; the other end is pointed.

Nectarines/peaches are my favorite fruit :)

I’ll be making stationery out of some of these drawings.

As you can tell, Tombow markers come in dozens of beautiful colors. I feel like a kid at the candy store when I go to the Tombow shelf at Blick. :) Another thing I love about drawing is that it’s easier to practice than painting is while traveling. I went to Albuquerque, New Mexico last week and drew the prickly pear cactus below while I was relaxing by the pool!

I love these colors :)

I’m excited to scan all of these drawings and see what I can create on Photoshop! There will definitely be greeting cards in the future and prints! I also have a lot more ideas for illustrations and stationery designs. Make sure you follow me on social media and sign up for my email newsletter for updates!

Birthday card design. I also used a white Posca pen here in the areas that are more opaque. I used a gold Posca pen for the candles.

As you can probably tell, I love bright colors!

I’d love to hear what you think about these drawings! Let me know in the comments!
