What I painted in July:

Hi friends! I thought it’d be fun to do a little recap of what I painted in July. I had an interesting idea in the beginning of the month: I thought it’d be cool to create a color palette specifically for July. What colors feel like July? What do I think of when I think of July?? I got out my (dozens and dozens) of Tombow markers and played around with different possible color combinations. I wanted to stick to no more than eight colors.

These are the colors I came up with for July!

With these eight colors, I challenged myself to create an abstract painting. Here is the final painting I’m calling, “In July”:

“In July” with color swatches in acrylic!

To me, July colors feel light and sunny. I think of the colors you might see at the beach: various shades of sand, aqua, sky blue, and pops of red that you see on those striped umbrellas or beach balls. I think of peaches and ice cream! What colors do you see when you think of July??!

In addition to “In July,” I painted a swimming pool! I’ve always wanted to paint a pool but never really had the ideal photo for inspiration. On July 3rd, I went lap-swimming at a local pool and vowed to snap some good photos for a potential painting. Here is the photo that inspired my acrylic painting, “Based on July.”

A friend purchased this painting, but prints will be available!

I’ll be creating a palette for August (and each month), so be sure to sign up for my newsletter on my website and follow me on Instagram at nisha_paints to see what eight colors I’ll include in my August palette!

ps: my hope is to create a color palette and abstract painting for each month, so eventually I’ll be able to create a calendar (for 2028)! Let me know what you think about the July colors in the comments!
