Take a tour of my sketchbook with me!

Hi y’all, I’ve gotten more consistent with my sketchbook practice the last several months and wanted to give you a little tour! Sketchbooks are a great place to experiment with new mediums and styles. Additionally, there’s less pressure to make something look Instagram-worthy, which, ironically, sometimes leads to paintings/sketches that I particularly love…like these loose tulips!

I also love to play around with new art tools in my sketchbook…like these Carandache Neocolor II Aquarelle Pastels:

Keeping a sketchbook practice is also a fun way to keep a visual diary of sorts. I like to sketch snapshots of memories like having my first-ever apple martini with my friend! It tasted like an alcoholic jolly rancher, lol!!

…and documenting good books (“The Lost Story,” by Meg Shaffer) and yummy bites! (Chilaquiles at Cafe Reveille in Berkeley)

I also like to experiment with combining different mediums in my sketchbook…for example, first painting with watercolor, then adding details with pastels, colored pencils, and/or pens.

My sketchbook is also a GREAT place to work out concepts for new stationery and painting designs…I want to design a new birthday card, and I like the idea of doing something with streamers and balloons:

I thought these lamps would make a cute “I love you”-type card! By the way, if you’re interested in seeing what stationery and artwork I have available right now, check out my Etsy shop and be sure to follow me on Instagram where I sell work that might not be listed on Etsy yet…

Last but not least, who doesn’t love a gorgeous cake?! I’ve already designed one card with a birthday cake on it, but am definitely planning to design more:

The cake on the left in the photo above was the rough draft of my mixed media piece below! I can’t wait to paint more cakes!

This painting is available to purchase — please send me an email if you’re interested! It’s not yet posted to my Etsy shop.

These are just some examples of the art in my sketchbooks! Definitely follow me on Instagram (@nisha_paints…particularly in my stories) if you want to see more images from my sketchbook!!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this tour through my sketchbook!! Thanks for reading!
